MEHR: Iran’s Vice President Ali Salajegheh said that the country plans to set up an International Maritime Environment Research Center on Hormuz Island in the Hormuz Strait region.
Speaking at a ceremony held to introduce the top environmental projects at the Pars Energy Special Economic Zone, Ali Salajegheh, who also heads the Department of the Environment (DoE) stated, “Since people are living in areas of the Pars Energy Special Economic Zone, the removal of the environmental pollutants for safeguarding and protecting the health of residents of this area is essential.”
Studies indicate that the majority of the CEOs of the oil, gas, and petrochemical companies especially Pars Energy Special Economic Zone Organization are willing to reduce the environmental pollutants in the region, he underlined.
The region's environment should be protected by the people of the regional countries and Iran should be a pioneering country in this respect, Salajegheh added.
The industrial and production units especially in the oil, gas and petrochemical fields have taken effective steps in the field of protecting the environment from pollutants, he said, adding that Iran should be a role model in the world in the industrial and environmental arenas and realization of this important issue requires the cooperation of the responsible officials in different sectors.
