Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Adbdollahian and his South African counterpart Naledi Pandor also discussed Iran's retaliatory attack on Israel during the Saturday phone call.
Due to the inefficiency of the US and several of its member states in condemning the Israeli attack on Iran's consulate in Damascus on April 1, Tehran decided to attack the two Israeli bases from which the Zionists carried out the airstrike against the country's diplomatic site in Syria, Amir-Abdollahian said.
He once again reiterated that Iran is not seeking to expand the war, but if the Israeli regime takes action against the country, Tehran will strongly respond.
For her part, the top South African diplomat called for establishing an immediate ceasefire in the besieged Gaza Strip which is under a barbaric Israeli war.
She further stressed that the visit of the Iranian president to South Africa is on her country's political agenda in 2024.
The Israeli regime attacked Iran's consulate in the Syrian capital of Damascus on April 1. The Israeli aggression led to the destruction of the entire building and the martyrdom and injury of the entire people inside it.
Seven of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) military advisors were martyred following the Israeli attack on Iran's consulate in Damascus, IRGC said in a statement.
In response to the Israeli aggression, Iran attacked the Israeli-occupied Palestinian territories with a barrage of drones and missiles early on Sunday.
Following the attack, Iran announced that it does not seek to create tension in the region and had carried out the anti-Zionist operation to punish the Zionist regime. However, the Iranian political and military officials have strongly warned that the country would give a severe response in case of any fresh Israeli aggression.
