MEHR: Stating that anti-Iran sanctions are intended to take people’s livelihood hostage, the Leader of the Islamic Revolution called for attempts to neutralize the sanctions in addition to pursuing negotiations to have them lifted.
Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei made the remarks in a meeting with President Ebrahim Raeisi and members of his cabinet on the occasion of the Government Week in Tehran.
Government Week is observed in memory of former president Mohammad Ali Rajaei and his prime minister Mohammad Javad Bahonar.
In late August 1981, a bomb explosion claimed the lives of top officials including the then-president Rajaei and prime minister Bahonar.
The terrorist group Mujahedin-e-Khaq Organization (MKO) was responsible for the 1981 attack.
Considering the issue of Iranian nations' livelihood as an important matter, the Leader in the meeting called on the government officials to pursue neutralizing the sanctions that have affected the lives of the Iranian people negatively.
"Most of the sanctions aim to take people’s livelihood hostage. Along with (pursuing) negotiations, sanctions should be neutralized. The most important indicator of the neutralization of sanctions is the reduction of inflation," he stressed.
Ayatollah Khamenei also advised the Iranian president and his cabinet to always consider the impact of their decision on the country's economy.
Elsewhere in his remarks, the Leader of the Islamic Revolution hailed the efforts of the 13th Iranian government for contributing to the country's progress.
Ayatollah Khamenei further appreciated the government's neighborliness policy, calling for continuing this track.
"We should have no dispute with any of our neighbors. Whatever the dispute is, it should turn into cooperation. This is something that is possible and has been done to some extent and should be done after this as well," he added, stressing the need for holding interaction with other parts of the world including Africa, South America, Asia, and East Asia.
Dubbing the recent accession of Iran to two important international treaties (SCO and BRICS), Ayatollah Khamenei added that this event itself is not only useful for the country but also shows that Iran is now in a situation where the founders of these international agreements treaties are willing and sometimes they insist to include it as a member.
"Favorable tasks have been done regarding foreign interactions and international policies. We are facing opportunities in (our) communication with different countries. (We should) recognize these opportunities and use them on time. The MoUs and cooperation documents that are signed should not remain on paper," the Leader underlined, calling for implementing the reached agreements.
