MEHR: The joint drone exercise between the four units of the Islamic Republic of Iran Army kicked off early Tuesday across the country.
Nearly 200 types of drones are involved in the military exercise, the Deputy Chief of the Iranian Army for Coordination Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari said on Tuesday morning.
In the early hours of the joint exercise, surveillance and reconnaissance drones successfully carried out their operations which included monitoring the country's borders, identifying specific targets, and taking pictures, he added.
The senior Army commander, who is in charge of commanding the drill, went on to say that maintaining and improving combat readiness is one of the inevitable principles of the Islamic Republic of Iran Army, adding that holding such exercises throughout the year is aimed at practically practicing what has been learned theoretically.
In the exercise, a large number of UAVs of the army will be used in special and difficult conditions and will be evaluated in the fields of surveillance and reconnaissance, electronic warfare, and combat, he concluded.
Iranian military experts and engineers have in recent years made remarkable breakthroughs in manufacturing a broad range of indigenous equipment including drones, making the armed forces self-sufficient.
In August, the spokesperson for the Defense Ministry said a number of European countries have asked to purchase Iran’s unmanned aerial vehicles.
