On the sidelines of the 7th exhibition of transportation, logistics and related industries in Tehran held from December 18-20 at Imam Khomeini Grand Mosalla in Tehran, Iran's Minister of Roads and Urban Development Mehrdad Bazrpash reported on the latest achievements of Iran in the transport sector.
Bazrpash informed of the 33 percent growth in the transit through Iran’s territory and beating the record of Road freight transit in 2023. In November, nearly 60,000 Iranian and foreign fleets transited over 1.4 million tons of freight transit from Iran's territory, which was the highest volume of monthly road transit from Iran in the past years and compared to November 2022 shows 92 percent growth.
Pointing to the important role of transport in economic development, Bazrpash informed of the acceleration of railway projects including the Rash-Caspian Railway, Rasht-Astara, Chabahar-Zahedan, Shalamcheh-Basra, Shahrekord-Esfahan, Khorramabad-Dorood, Miyaneh-Ardebil, and Yazd-Eghlid Railway projects.
Moreover, regarding the renovation of the rail fleet, he talked about the attempts to issue the license for the import of passenger railway wagons and also renovation of locomotives.
Highlighting the initiative of „Iran-Rah“ as a safe and economical route and solution for regional transit through Iran, Bazrpash said it is the top priority of the Ministry aligned with the development of negotiations and transport diplomacy with the regional countries as witnessed in last months.
As per advancing the sea-based economic development as a mega trend for development, Bazrpad said about the development of the Caspian, Amirabad and Shahid Beheshti Ports and contracts for 50 passenger ships for increasing the capacity of passenger transport.
On the first day of the exhibition, three MoUs were signed with the start-ups and knowledge-based companies.
These MoUs included a tripartite agreement for the implementation of a knowledge-based solution for the safety of road transport and reducing accidents and casualties, the MoU for the construction of three freeways in Iran with the participation of the private sector, and another MoU to equip railway projects with electronic signal systems made by Iranian engineers.
These agreements are intended to support domestic producers and with the aim of increasing productivity and maximum use of the railway network capacity, reducing human intervention in traffic management, increasing the safety of cargo and passenger transportation, and facilitating the planning and operation of railways and monitoring.
Annually, concurrent with the national transport day on December 17 and the commemoration of transport week, Iran's Ministry of Roads and Urban Development holds a transport exhibition in order to facilitate its main objectives. This year, the 7th exhibition of transportation, logistics and related industries are being held in Tehran on December 18-20, 2023 at Imam Khomeini Grand Mosalla.
This year, the theme of the exhibition is 'smart transport, transit and economic development' which is held with the participation of 316 private and public companies and 85 start-ups in an area of more than 16000 m2 to showcase the latest transport achievements in the road, maritime, rail, air, smart and multimodal transport.
