Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister, Ali Bagheri Kani met and held talks with Roza Isakovna Otunbayeva, Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Afghanistan and Head of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan·
In this meeting, the two sides discussed and exchanged opinions regarding the latest developments in Afghanistan and the upcoming Doha meeting.
Comparing the conditions of Afghanistan before and after the presence of the United States, Bagher Kani referred to the role of the US in spreading insecurity and instability in this country and increasing the threat of terrorism and drug production.
The international organizations in Afghanistan should give priority to securing the interests of the people and guaranteeing the security of Afghanistan, the development of this country and improving the living conditions and welfare of the Afghan people, Bagheri Kani said.
Referring to the responsibility of the West, especially the United States, to compensate for the damage it has caused to the people of Afghanistan and the region over the past two decades, he emphasized the responsibility of the United Nations to play a constructive role in the process of establishing peace and stability in Afghanistan, as well as the irreplaceable role and capacity of its neighboring countries in this process.
The UN special envoy, for her part, stressed the necessity of harmonizing the positions of regional and extra-regional countries to help the development and stability of Afghanistan and called for the assistance of the Islamic Republic of Iran to establish and promote interaction with the caretaker government of Afghanistan.
