The birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is celebrated as the unity week in Iran to strengthen the bond between Shia and Sunni Muslims.
On the occasion of the Unity Week, the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei met with a group of Sunni scholars and clerics on Monday.
Emphasizing the importance of Islamic unity and the efforts of ill-wishers to tarnish Islamic unity and amity, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei reemphasized that the issue of "Islamic Ummah" should not be forgotten in any way.
Speaking in a meeting with a group of Sunni scholars, Friday prayers leaders, and directors of theological schools across the country on Monday, the Leader called the identity of the “Islamic Ummah” essential and stressed that the issue of the “Islamic Ummah” should not be fallen into oblivion.
The issue of the identity of the Islamic Ummah is a fundamental issue beyond nationality, and geographical boundaries do not change the truth and identity of the Islamic Ummah, the Leader added.
Referring to the hostile efforts to make Muslims indifferent to their Islamic identity, he pointed out this is against the Islamic teachings that a Muslim becomes ignorant to the suffering of another Muslim in Gaza or other parts of the world.
The Leader called the Sunni scholars to rely on the Islamic identity and the Islamic Ummah and pointed to the malicious activities of ill-wishers who make their utmost effort to foment religious differences in the Islamic world, especially in Iran and noted that they are seeking to sow seeds of discord in Iran and any other Islamic region using the intellectual, propagandistic and economic means.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Ayatollah Khamenei pointed to the Israeli massacre of the innocent people in occupied Palestine and noted, “Today, supporting the oppressed and innocent people in Palestine is one of the main duties of the Islamic world and if someone disobeys this duty, he or she will definitely be questioned by God Almighty.”
